Hello world,
when you work in beauty retail like me the launch of new products is a wonderful breath of fresh air and becomes something you look forward to. At the beginning of this month we celebrated such an occasion at my work, with the exclusive launch of the new Lush make up range, including the new naked foundations called "Slapsticks".
I stopped wearing foundation when I was 20, as all the ones I tried either didn't match my skin tone or ended up clogging my pores and/or making me break out horrifically. This is why I was initially cautious, but after I tried on a Slapstick to take pictures for my shop's social media accounts, I really loved the result and decided that I wanted to try this product out in more depth and bought one in the colour I got matched with (7C).
Since then I've been wearing the Slapstick most days that I've left the house, and this is my experience with it:
What I liked:
- The product's application is incredibly smooth, which I assume is due to its argan and coconut oil content, and thanks to this the pigment is spread super evenly, which makes my complexion look absolutely flawless when I wear it.
- The foundation's finish is super dewy without making the skin look greasy. It just really creates that "glow from within" look, and this is despite my skin being more on the oily side!
- It goes without saying that the concept of a foundation that doesn't require any plastic or glass packaging is amazing and a big selling point for the Slapstick.
- On most days when I wore my Slapstick, I also applied my Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush. Whilst this is a product that has good staying power anyway, I felt like being applied on top of the Slapstick made the blush's colour pop even more and made its colour last all day without fail.
- The colour 7C is an amazing match for my skin colour. Even when I wear quite a lot of product to build up more coverage, it almost doesn't look like I'm wearing anything - the match is that good. And due to the fact that the Slapstick range includes 40 shades, most people would hopefully be able to find their perfect match too.
What I didn't like:
- Due to the fact that the Slapstick is "naked" its packaging can get a little bit messy quite quickly.
- After a couple of days of wearing the product I did get some small spots in areas of my face that I usually never break out in (usually I only get spots when I'm hormonal and even then only in the exact same places). As I did change my sunscreen at the same time that I started to try out the Slapstick, I can not say with certainty if these breakouts were because of the foundation, but I have switched back to my old sunscreen and will continue to use the Slapstick in order to figure this out.
All in all I believe that the positives far outweigh the negative aspects of the Slapstick, which is why I am very happy with my purchase and will keep using it. Whilst it might not stay part of my everyday make up routine, I will definitely keep it in my drawers ready for the days when I just want to look that extra bit more flawless and put together.
May x
