who doesn't love the excitement when a beauty brand releases new products? I sure do, so when I heard the news that the Lush shop I work for was going to receive a limited amount of stock of brand new products which had been sold at the Lush Summit 2018, I couldn't resist and came into my workplace even though it was my day off and did some shopping.
And after having tried most of the products out I can say - leaving my bed was worth it.
Shower Oils
The shower oils are a brand new kind of product - they are made with a base of fair trade cocoa butter and various high quality oils, sourced from different sustainable projects and partners Lush is working with.
They are designed to be warmed up under hot water, to be melted onto the skin and for the excess oil to be rinsed off. Out of the four shower oils I've bought, I've used "Minamisoma" and "Nausicaa's Gold" in the shower so far and I'm very impressed. I would say they work similarly to the Lush body conditioners, however they leave less of a residue behind, but sink into the skin quickly and make it feel soft and hydrated. If enough of the products is used, their scent also stays on the skin nicely.
"Minamisoma" Regenerative Shower Oil
I was very excited when I heard that one of the shower oils that was sold at the Summit had the same fragrance as the Lush Avocado Co Wash, which is why this was the first product that I picked up out of all the Summit exclusives. I love that it also uses Rapeseed Oil from Minamisoma, a town close to Fukushima, which had to be evacuated after the 2011 nuclear disaster. When the inhabitants returned and started to rebuild their lives, they had to replace their ruined crops and chose to plant rapeseed crops, since they can clear soil from radiation. In order to support their efforts Lush is buying rapeseed oil from the community there and uses it in special products.
I especially love this shower oil and I'm hoping that the company finds a way to bring it into production all year round.
This gorgeous little number contains fair trade almond oil, almond butter and almond essential oil, which explains why it smells like a delicious marzipan cake.
"Nausicaa's Gold" Regenerative Shower Oil
This shower oil is gorgeous not just because of it's golden shimmer but also because of its lovely scent which it shares with the Christmas 2017 shower gel "Berry Berry Christmas", which was one of my absolute favorites out of that seasonal range. Its full name is "Nausicaa's Golden Flask", which is inspired by princess Nausicaa from the myth Odyssey, and the golden flask she used to carry her olive oil in, because just like Nusicaa's flask in the myth, this shower oil also carries lots of olive oil - organic extra virgin olive oil to be exact, which you can really feel on your skin.
"Vertical Abhyanga" Regenerative Shower Oil
I found this shower oil very appealing since it smelled very different than the other new products. With sesame oil and cardamom oil it reminded me strongly of "Cardamom Coffee", one of the Lush fragrances which I really adore. Its name was explained to me by one of our spa therapists - Abhyanga is a form of ayurvedic body massage, which means that this shower oil is meant to relax you like a body massage, whilst standing up in the shower.
Bath Bombs:
All Lush Summit bath bombs are meant to draw attention to a specific environmental, animal rights or human rights issue, and coincidentally I did especially love two bath bombs which relate to causes that are very close to my heart.
"Mermaid" Bath Bomb
This bath bomb was ridiculously popular amongst customers and I too had to buy two, since its smell - which it shares with the recurring Christmas soap "Baked Alaska" - is just amazing. It also was designed to raise awareness for the fight against plastic pollution in the world's oceans: It is predicted that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean. Since I'm currently trying to live a more conscious life in regards to how much plastic waste I'm producing, this is a cause that's very important to me.
"Fox" Bath Bomb
I love foxes and I love jasmine (which is what this little guy smells like), so I just couldn't resist buying this bath bomb to use on my next trip home. From demonstrating the bath bomb at work I know that it is fairly plain in the water but its scent is absolutely incredible. It also draws attention to several groups' efforts to keep the ban on fox hunting - a cause that I wholeheartedly support.
And since all of the proceeds of the sales of the Lush Summit products are going to support grassroots charities I don't even feel the slightest bit of guilt about having treated myself this close to payday.
May x
