who doesn't love the feeling of using up a beauty product? If I reach that point it means that I've probably found something I really love and will purchase again or that I've at least made room for new exciting things to try.
In the last couple of months I've reached this stage with quite a couple of my products, which is why I can share my opinion on them with you in this post.
Lush "H'Suan Wen Hua" Hair Treatment - This was the first hair mask I've ever bought from Lush and up to this day it's still one of my all time favourite hair products. Thanks to its lovely, natural ingredients it helps to soothe my difficult, sometimes itchy scalp (thank you bay leaf infusion!), whilst also moisturising the dry ends of my wavy hair and making it super soft and shiny.
Will I repurchase it?: 100%, once I've used up a couple more products from my currently too extensive hair care stash.
SheaMoisture Strengthen & Restore Treatment Masque - I love using products designed for ethnic hair since they help me achieve the levels of shine, strength and moisture that the offerings of the European market sometimes struggle to provide. This product lived up to my expectations - it smelt lovely, made my hair feel really soft and strong and was fairly easy to use.
Will I repurchase it?: Again, probably, as soon as I've made a bit more space in my hair care collection.
COLAB Dry Shampoo "Tokyo" - One of the last spray on dry shampoos that I had in my drawers. It smelt nice, but I wasn't blown away by its effect. It didn't seem to change much about the appearance of my hair, even if my hair was barely greasy.
Will I repurchase it?: No, because I've drifted away from using spray on dry shampoos in the last couple of years - I just find powder based products much more effective.
Kiehl's Superbly Smoothing Argan Shampoo - Another product that I've had in my collection for way too long and finally used up. I liked how it made my hair feel moisturised, however, I felt like while I was using it, my hair started to look greasy quicker (probably due to the fact that it was sulfate free). Another downside was the shampoo's scent - it smelt pretty chemical, and unfortunately the scent also lingered on my hair.
Will I repurchase it?: No.
Lush "Daddy-O" Shampoo - I purchased this shampoo to keep the ombre parts of my hair nice and bright. While I only saw a minimal effect on the colour of my hair, I did like the product's scent and how it made my hair feel.
Will I repurchase it?: I'm not in a rush to get another bottle, but I might, once I've used up a couple of the shampoos I have lying around currently.
Maui Moisture Nourish & Moisture Coconut Milk Conditioner - I bought this conditioner when it was on offer at Boots, and when I used it I was pleasantly surprised. Its scent is amazing and despite the fact that it's not heavily loaded with oils, it made my hair feel notably softer.
Will I repurchase it?: Short and sweet: Yes!
Lush "Hair Doctor" Hot Oil Treatment - I was very excited when one of my all time favorite hair products returned to Lush's shelves reformulated as a hot oil treatment. When I used it, I applied it from the roots to the ends and let it sink in for 30 minutes before washing it out. And I was absolutely blown away by the amazing effect it had on my scalp and hair.
Will I repurchase it?: 100%
Dr Organic Maroccan Argan Oil Conditioner - I was gifted this lovely natural conditioner by a friend because she knows how much I love silicone free hair care and I was pleasantly surprised by how soft and strong it made my hair feel.
Will I repurchase it?: I'm not in a rush to get another bottle, since I like the scent of other similarly natural conditioners more.
Lush "Damaged" Hot Oil Treatment - This was one of the old style Lush hot oil treatments. It made my hair feel soft and moisturised, however I wasn't massively excited about it.
Will I repurchase it?: Not in the near future.
Lush "Tangled" Hot Oil Treatment - Another old style Lush hot oil treatment. Same as with "Damaged" it was a solid product in regards to moisturising and conditioning my hair but other hair masks or treatments I've tried have just won me over more.
Will I repurchase it?: It's not available anymore.
Skincare:
pixi + Caroline Hirons "Double Cleanse" - When I heard pixi had teamed up with Caroline Hirons, one of my favourite skin care bloggers, to create a cleanser, I just had to buy the result of this cooperation. The "Double Cleanse" consists of a solid cleansing oil to remove make up and excess oil, and a cleansing cream to cleanse and moisturise the skin. The product did all it was meant to do, however for its price of over 20 pounds I would have expected to see a greater effect on my skin (e.g. in regards to its texture, complexion, etc.).
Will I repurchase it?: No.
Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic - I started using this toner last year when I went on holiday to Florida and instantly fell in love with it. It has a wonderful cooling effect and leaves the skin feeling fresh and hydrated.
Will I repurchase it?: 100%
Lush "Cup O'Coffee" Exfoliating Mask - I love using this product in the morning, either as a scrub or a mask, since its main ingredient - coffee infusion - gives it a heavenly coffee scent and helps me wake up. On top of that it has a lovely balancing effect on the skin - with kaolin clay to cleanse and agave syrup to moisturise it always gives my skin exactly what it needs.
Will I repurchase it?: 100%
Lush "Tea Tree Water" Toner Water - One of my go to skin care products when my skin is having problems with breakouts of any nature. Its simple formula (tea tree water, grapefruit water and juniperberry water) helps to clear any blemishes quickly and effectively.
Will I repurchase it?: 100%
Sarah Chapman Skinesis Morning Facial - Before I bought this product I kept asking myself if one skincare product could really be worth the price point of almost 50 pounds. Turns out - it can! A mixture between a treatment oil and an active serum this product worked wonders for the texture of my skin and my complexion and always left my skin smooth and hydrated.
Will I repurchase it?: 100%
Melvita Orange Blossom Floral Water - I bought this toner at duty free when I realised I had forgotten to pack a toner - part of my essential skin care routine - for my upcoming trip and a friend had recommended to try orange blossom water in order to brighten my complexion. Overall it did its job and wasn't a bad product but I wasn't 100% convinced by either its scent or its effect.
Will I repurchase it?: No.
Bodycare and Shower:
Balea Totes Meer Salz Öl-Peeling - I brought this sea salt body scrub back from a visit home to Germany. Whenever I'm home me and my sister usually make a trip to the drugstore and I stock up on some of the very reasonably priced natural products which I can't access here in the UK. This scrub smelt lovely and its texture reminded me of the Rituals scrubs which have a much higher price point.
Will I repurchase it?: I'm not in a rush to get another one but maybe eventually.
London Butterflies Whipped Body Cream - I liked this cream because it had a lovely sweet scent and sank into my skin super quickly, which is something I very much appreciate in a body moisturiser since I'm very lazy and like to not have to wait for a cream to sink in after applying it.
Will I repurchase it?: I'm not in a rush to get another one but maybe eventually.
Victoria's Secret "Love Spell" Hydrating Body Lotion - I had this body lotion lying in my drawers for ages and found it was time to use it. Its scent (cherry blossom and peach) was absolutely lovely but unfortunately it left my skin feeling rather sticky.
Will I repurchase it?: Most likely not, since it also contains silicones which I'm trying to avoid.
Crabtree & Evelyn "Avocado, Olive & Basil" Ultra Moisturising Hand Therapy - A lovely hand cream which absorbed super quickly, which, again, is something I need in a moisturiser, and especially in a hand cream. Its scent was very refreshing and pleasant.
Will I repurchase it?: I'm not in a rush to get another one but maybe eventually.
Lush "Snowcake" soap (not pictured) - I'm so happy to be able to include at least one packaging free product in this list of things I've used up, since I've been trying to be more conscious of the amount of plastic waste I'm creating. This soap is one of my all time favourite Lush products, even though it's a seasonal exclusive, due to its delicious Marzipan scent and the lovely creamy lather it creates.
Will I repurchase it: 100%, if it comes back this Christmas.
Make Up:
Kat von D Lock It Concealer "L11 Neutral" - I did very much like this product - it has a very nice, high coverage, but still feels light on the skin and is easily blendable. And after I first applied this concealer on my under-eye area, a friend immediately commented how awake I looked - and when others notice and comment on my make up I do take this as a sign of quality.
Will I repurchase it?: 100%
Fenty Beauty "Invisimatte" Blotting Powder "Universal" - I was very excited to try something from Rihanna's famed beauty line and this powder turned out to be a lovely product, which kept my skin matte and gave it a lovely appearance. However, I did have to apply a fair amount of product in order to keep my skin from getting shiny on a long work day, which turned out to be a bit of a problem due to the powder's high price point.
Will I repurchase it?: Even though it's a lovely product probably not, since I've tried blotting powders which work just as well for me and are much less expensive.
& other stories Stick Concealer "1" - To round this post off, another product I managed to use up after it was lying around in my collection for way too long. This concealer made me fall in love with stick concealers again, due to its great consistency, blendability and colour match.
Will I repurchase it?: I wish I could, but it doesn't seem to be available anymore.
May x
