Hello world,
I remember when I was in my teens and struggling with unpredictable skin issues, I was looking forward to my twenties because I thought that I would've been able to say goodbye to spots and breakouts by then. Now at 25 I can look back at my 16 year old self and tell her: "Oh if you only knew...".
I'm lucky that I don't suffer from major acne but I do get the occasional spot pretty regularly, especially if I'm stressed or hormonal. Because of this I'm always on the lookout for a good spot treatment as I like to treat my skin only where it's needed. This is why the Mario Badescu Drying Lotion made it into my basket when I went beauty shopping at Liberty's the other week.
I've heard great things about the brand Mario Badescu in the past, with their Aloe, Herb and Rosewater facial spray being the product I've come across most in reviews online. This is why I was quite excited to try out one of their products and chose the one that was most relevant for my skin's needs, since I had quite a couple of hormonal spots at the time of shopping.
The product's ingredients (Isopropyl Alcohol, Water, Calamine, Zinc Oxide, Titanium Dioxide, Sulfur, Camphor, Talc, Glycerin and Salycilic Acid) sure made it sound like a powerhouse in the fight for clear skin: Sulfur and Salycilic Acid cut down on sebum, remove dead skin and help pores to stay unclogged, and Camphor and Calamine reduce inflammation and swelling.
The Drying Lotion is aimed at "surface blemishes", however even after excessive googling I wasn't able to find out what exactly is meant by that. So I just went ahead and tried the product out in regards to the issue I deal with - congestions that sit in deeper layers of the skin and cause visible bumps - sometimes painful, sometimes not - but don't have a head which is why you usually can't do anything about them but wait for them to develop.
The use of the lotion is pretty easy: After cleansing and toning your skin, you take a cotton bud, dip it into the bottle and make sure you reach all the way down to the pink sediment, which is where all the concentrated ingredients are located. Then you cover the affected area of your skin in product, which soon dries clay-like, and go to sleep, rinsing any excess product off in the morning.
I've noticed that when I use the product like this I usually have no traces of it left on my face in the morning - I seem to be an active sleeper -, and since I'm not sure if this is affecting its effectiveness, I sometimes also wear it for a couple of hours during the day, if I'm not going anywhere.
Both ways the product has achieved amazing results for me. When first applied it sometimes stings a bit, however this feeling always fades fast. And after the product sinks into my skin for a couple of hours I can feel and see a massive improvement. If the bumps under my skin were red, this redness is reduced drastically, and so are pain and swelling. I even felt like some of my spots formed a head literally overnight thanks to the Drying Lotion and were thus easily treatable and gone in a matter of hours.
The only downside I can see about the Drying Lotion is that its packaging is fairly low quality. Once I knocked my bottle off my bathroom cabinet by accident and the plastic lid immediately shattered, so I carefully had to glue it back together in order to protect the product from bacteria. This is not really a factor that impacted my opinion of the product much but I think it would be lovely if the Drying Lotion's amazing quality was mirrored in its packaging.
That said, even though the product is fairly pricey - I paid 15.50 pounds for a palm sized bottle-, I will definitely repurchase it once I've used up my current bottle. But seeing that even though I've used it quite frequently I've barely made a dent into mine, I trust that it will last me for a while.
May x
