Hello world,
life has been busy for the last 3 months which is why it's been quiet on my blog. However, whilst I've been too busy to blog, I've kept working on using up products from my (a little too) large beauty stash, and can share with you in this post what I've thought of them.
Haircare
The Body Shop Ginger Anti-Dandruff Shampoo - Summer in London is always incredibly hot and humid and this year was no exception. For me this unfortunately resulted in lots of very itchy and painful psoriasis flare ups on my scalp - something I have been suffering from since childhood if I'm facing those conditions. By the time I found this shampoo – through absolute coincidence – I had tried everything and was really desperate. You can only imagine how happy I was when this shampoo – most likely thanks to its content of anti-inflammatory ginger oil – soothed and healed my scalp. Consequently I did repurchase this shampoo once I ran out, however, since then I've realised that it also contains a silicone based ingredient – something I usually avoid in my haircare. This is why I've stopped using it and if the next summer as as hot as the past I will have to look for a new remedy for my sensitive scalp.
Lush "Retread" Hair Conditioner (x2) - I do love Lush haircare in general but this super strengthening conditioner is one of my absolute favourites. It makes my hair feel strong thanks to lots of soy milk in it, and gives my waves a defined look, which is why I will definitely repurchase it.
Aphogee Two-Step Protein Treatment - Since I've ombre dyed my hair, it has unfortunately lost a lot of its formerly curly structure and is now merely wavy. In order to reverse a bit of the damage I did when I bleached my hair and destroyed a lot of its keratin, I tried out this treatment. It did have really beautiful results, and made my hair look curlier again for a good while after using it, which is why I also mentioned it in my June 2018 Favourites post. However, it was quite complicated to use, and I've also realised when preparing this post that it contains a silicone polymer, which is why I'm not going to repurchase it any time soon.
Lush "American Cream" Conditioner (x2) - This is another great Lush hair product and in my opinion the best smelling hair conditioner that the brand has to offer. I have repurchased it many times in the past couple of years so I don't doubt for a second that I will use it again in the future.
SheaMoisture 10-in-1 Multi Benefit Hair Masque - This hair mask smelt amazing and had some wonderful ingredients to moisturise and strengthen my dry, wavy and damaged hair, such as coconut oil, hydrolyzed rice protein and marula oil. I did like its effect, too, and since I like to switch my haircare routine up quite frequently I'll definitely consider buying it again in the future.
Lush "Marilyn" Hair Treatment - I usually go for heavier hair masks than this, due to my aforementioned damaged hair structure, but one day I decided to give this a go as I hadn't tried it in years of working for Lush and I do have blonde ends now after all! I was pleasantly surprised by the results: Thanks to its content of linseed mucilage my hair looked strong and defined and the lemon juice and chamomile infusion really worked their magic and made my hair a visibly more golden shade of blonde. Since I was so happy with the results I have already repurchased the treatment.
Skincare
Garnier Skin Active "Refreshing Botanical Toner with Aloe Vera Extract" - I have always been a bit of a skin care snob and never really paid much attention to the offerings of drugstore skincare. But when I read that 96% of the ingredients of this toner were of natural origin, and saw the super transparent list of the sources of the ingredients on the back of the bottle I was intrigued. And since my skin likes anything Aloe Vera I gave it a go. I did like the product's effect, even though it was sometimes hard to get the right dose on a cotton pad in order not to waste product and to not overload the skin. But especially considering its inexpensive price tag I'd definitely consider repurchasing it.
Neal's Yard "Rehydrating Rose Toner" - I don't have anything bad to say about this product but also nothing extraordinary. It smelt lovely and had great ingredients such as rose oil and aloe vera juice inside, however, considering it's rather hefty price tag of 16 pounds for 200 ml I would have expected a visible improving effect of some sort on my skin, which it did not have. This is why I wouldn't buy it again.
Lush "Ocean Salt" Face and Body Scrub - I hadn't used this scrub as a facial exfoliator for years, but it did make me fall in love with it all over again. It left my skin feel deeply cleansed without it feeling stripped or dry, which makes it the perfect combination. I'm glad I went for it again and will definitely repurchase it once I've used up a couple more facial scrubs from my collection.
"The Bianca Remover" - I already posted an in-depth review about this product which I still stand behind. They are the best make up remover pads I've ever used and if they were easier to get I would buy them all the time, but I them only being available online won't stop me from repurchasing them at some point in the future.
Alpha-H "Daily Essential Moisturiser" - I'm a big believer in using SPF on your fave no matter the weather – we all want to prevent premature aging right? As it can be a bit much to apply moisturiser and a sunscreen to my skin seperately, I did enjoy that this product did both: It protected my skin with SPF 50+ (and antioxidant vitamin e) and also made it feel super soothed thanks to its Aloe Vera content. It was super lightweight, too, which is something I love in a moisturiser, which is why I'll definitely repurchase it in the future.
The Ordinary 100% "Organic Cold-Pressed Rose Hip Seed Oil" - This oil is one of my go to remedies for when my skin is angry and breaks out for any reason. It soothes, hydrates and calms. I will definitely purchase it again as it is a lifesaver.
Lush "Mask of Magnaminty" Face and Body Mask - I can't express how much I love this mask. Whatever my skin needs - cleansing, hydration, calming down breakouts - this product does it. For that very reason I of course have already repurchased it.
Shower and Bodycare
Lush "Yuzu and Cocoa" Moisturising Shower Cream - I used this shower cream all summer long as its fruity scent (created by yuzu infusion and grapefruit oil) really set the mood for the hottest season. It also made my skin feel great thanks to its high cocoa butter content. I would definitely buy it again, however, unfortunately it has been discontinued a while ago.
Alverde Bio-Salbei & Bio Limette Deo-Stick - I exclusively use aluminum free stick deodorants as they are what I find works best for me. This one was a random drugstore find from when I went shopping with my sister during a visit at home in Germany. It has a lovely cooling effect due to it containing sage, and also a pleasant refreshing fragrance. As it is also really affordable (I believe its price tag was around the 3 Euro mark) I would definitely repurchase it if I lived close to a dm (German drugstore chain).

Lush "Lavender Vida Loca" Hand and Body Soap - Lavender is one of my favourite scents which is why I really enjoyed using this soap. It wasn't necessarily moisturising which is why I would be careful using it as a body soap, but as hand soap it worked fine and made my bath room area smell lovely, so I would definitely buy it again.
Lush "Honey I Washed The Kids" Hand and Body Soap - I had never tried this Lush classic in years of working for the company, which is why I gave it a go. It was very moisturising und would definitely be suitable to be used in the shower, too. I just wasn't that blown away by the fragrance – personal taste and all – which is why I probably won't buy it again in the near future.
Lush "Cherryish" Body Scrub - I included this product in my monthly favorites as soon as it was launched and my opinion hasn't changed since. It's by far my favorite naked Lush body scrub due to its lovely rough exfolating effect and its yummy cherry bakewell like fragrance. I will definitely keep repurchasing it!
Lush "Buffy" Body Scrub - This was another case of me using up a long term inhabitant of my beauty drawers. It did a solid job at exfoliating and moisturising my skin but I prefer scents which are a little less plain, like the one of "Cherryish"
Make Up
Maybelline "Fit Me" Pressed Powder - I had this powder in my collection for so long that it doesn't even get sold in this form anymore. It did a decent job at keeping my skin matte and setting my concealer but since I'm not sure if the new "Fit Me" powders come in the same formula, I won't be purchasing the new style equivalent of this powder it anytime soon.
Benefit "Roller Lash" Mascara - Long story short: This is my all time favourite mascara, thanks to its amazing staying power and its ink black colour which keep my curled and long, but super light lashes look amazing even through a long and sweaty working day. This is why I have already repurchased it and will keep doing so until it gets discontinued (which will hopefully never happen).
May x
